Suppressing OnPage Notifications During Maintenance

Learn how to suppress OnPage notifications during a scheduled maintenance window so your on-call team isn’t unnecessarily alerted while planned work is underway.

OnPage’s Suppress Notifications option temporarily prevents notifications from being sent during a defined period. This is especially useful during scheduled maintenance, planned downtime, testing, or other known activities that could otherwise generate unnecessary alert noise.

In this step-by-step tutorial, we show you how to create a temporary maintenance window for an on-call group and suppress notifications for that period.

In this video, you'll learn how to:

  • Navigate to the appropriate on-call group's schedule
  • Create a temporary schedule on top of an existing schedule
  • Select Do Not Alert
  • Choose Suppress Notifications
  • Set the start and end date and time for your maintenance window
  • Save the schedule and automatically resume normal alerting afterward

During the suppression window, notifications associated with the on-call team are not sent out, helping prevent unnecessary paging and alert noise while planned work is taking place.

Once the scheduled window ends, the existing on-call schedule resumes normal notification behavior.

This capability can be useful for IT, operations, facilities, engineering and other teams that need to temporarily control alerting during planned work without permanently changing their existing on-call schedules.
