AI Visibility Checkers for Engineering-Led Teams: 7 Best in 2026

Somewhere in your edge configuration there is a rule nobody remembers writing, and it is deciding whether ChatGPT can read your documentation. That is the thesis of this list: AI visibility, meaning whether assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity name your product when a buyer asks for one, has become partly an infrastructure problem, and the two failure modes that matter most sit on the engineering side of the house. The first is reachability, because a WAF default that returns 403 to GPTBot or ClaudeBot removes you from retrieval as surely as a robots.txt disallow. The second is observability, because a dashboard nobody can query from a pipeline is a screenshot with a login. The seven tools below were ranked on both, and on whether they act once they have found a fault.

Two terms first. GEO (generative engine optimization, or SEO for software that writes paragraphs instead of listing links) is the discipline of earning a place inside the answer. Share of voice is the proportion of answers in your category that mention you rather than a rival; it moves daily.

1. Honeyb

What it does. Honeyb asks the questions your buyers ask, across eight AI engines, daily, and runs each prompt more than once so a change in the trend is signal rather than one model's mood. The free AI visibility checker takes a domain, needs no signup or email, and returns one live engine's answer in about 15 seconds: whether the engine recognizes the brand, whether it recommends it for its category, and which brands it names instead.

Standout. It covers both engineering failure modes. It checks whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended can reach the site at all, so a 403 from a bot-management default gets found before a launch rather than after. Every answer, with mentions, position, sentiment and cited sources, is available through an API at $0.03 per answer on every engine. Recommendations are ranked by impact, a Content Agent drafts and publishes the articles they call for to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Wix, Ghost or a webhook, and an accuracy layer flags where an engine misstates a price against your own site.

Honeyb homepage and Sources view: the Reddit threads AI engines cite for a brand

Honeyb: the Sources view lists the Reddit threads and pages AI engines cite for a notion.so workspace. Captured 23 Oct 2026.

Watch out for. The $29 entry plan (The Minimum, $23 a month billed annually) tracks one engine with 10 prompts a day; all eight engines need Full Spectrum at $159 a month billed annually. A strategy call is Enterprise-only. Multi-Model and Full Spectrum start with a 3-day free trial.

What the engine said, gusto.com, 22 October 2026. Gemini, live with web search. Visibility score 10/10. "Gusto.com is a platform offering payroll, benefits, and human resources management software for businesses." Verdict: "Recommended when buyers ask about Payroll, Benefits, and HR Software for Small Businesses". Named alongside: ADP RUN, OnPay, QuickBooks Payroll, Rippling, Patriot Software. An identical run earlier the same day scored gusto.com 4/10 and left it out of the answer, naming ADP, Paychex Flex, Rippling, OnPay and QuickBooks Payroll instead; same engine, same question, a few hours apart.

2. Profound

What it does. Profound is an enterprise platform whose centerpiece, the AI Marketer, identifies work, drafts it and waits for approval, staging page rewrites into your CMS rather than pushing them live. Its Enterprise tier is described as covering up to nine engines.

Standout. RBAC, SCIM and SOC 2 are on the page, plus developer docs and a claim of 200+ integrations.

Watch out for. No numeric price appears on the pricing page; the choices are a free 7-day trial plan limited to 50 prompts on three engines, or a custom quote. API access is listed only against Enterprise.

3. Scrunch AI

What it does. Scrunch monitors brand appearances across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot and detects crawl errors. Its distinctive piece, the Agent Experience Platform, serves a compressed, machine-readable version of your site to AI agents.

Standout. That agent-facing layer is an engineering-shaped idea: rather than hoping a crawler parses your React bundle, you hand it a lean page. A Data API and SOC 2 Type II are listed.

Watch out for. Starter was $250 a month billed annually or $300 month to month at the time of writing, and the Enterprise Data API sits above the $417 Growth tier. It recommends and serves; it does not claim to write or publish content.

4. Ahrefs Brand Radar

What it does. Brand Radar tracks brand appearances through Custom Prompts you define and through an AI Visibility Index built from pre-collected responses. It also logs AI crawler visits (Bot Analytics, free while in beta).

Standout. The crawler log and the free preview are a low-friction first look, and the FAQ lists AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, with Claude available at 8 checks per update.

Watch out for. The economics are add-on economics: the Brand Radar AI add-on started at €179 a month as displayed at the time of writing on top of a Lite base plan at €119. Brand Radar monitors rather than fixes.

5. Peec AI

What it does. Peec AI is AI search analytics for marketing teams, tracking visibility, position and sentiment across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, with competitor benchmarking.

Standout. The data plumbing is unusually good: an API, a Looker Studio connector, CSV exports and an MCP server, so numbers reach a warehouse without a scraper.

Watch out for. Three named engines is the narrowest coverage on this list, the action layer stops at suggestions such as placing a PR story, and the pricing page lists three tiers without a single number.

6. SE Ranking AI visibility tracker

What it does. SE Ranking's AI Search Toolkit monitors mentions and links in answers from AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Gemini and shows cited sources, with metrics exposed through its API and an MCP server.

Standout. The free check allows five attempts a day without a card, and the 14-day trial includes 20 AI prompts a day.

Watch out for. Four engines leaves Claude, Perplexity and Grok unobserved. AI tracking is an add-on (€63.20 a month with annual billing, at the time of writing, on top of a Core plan displayed at €87.20), and the "specific steps to improve" are a to-do list the tool does not execute.

7. Nightwatch

What it does. Nightwatch is an SEO rank tracker that has added AI visibility, checking whether ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity (plus AI Mode and AI Overview on the pricing page) name your brand.

Standout. An API ships on every plan, and the NightOwl agent drafts meta, heading and internal-link fixes for approval.

Watch out for. The AI side is sized for a side project: Starter was €79 a month billed yearly as displayed at the time of writing with 50 AI prompts and 1,500 AI answers a month, against 500 tracked keywords.

How we ranked

Every criterion is a test you can run in a demo. First, repeated sampling: ask to see two consecutive runs of the same prompt. In a 240-answer dataset Honeyb published in July 2026, the top recommendation changed between 28 and 44 percent of the time between identical runs of the same question, so a tool that samples once a day is reporting a coin flip as a trend. Second, source visibility: can you see the exact domains the engine cited, per engine, over time? Third, crawler reachability: does the tool test whether GPTBot gets a 200 through your CDN and WAF, rather than trusting robots.txt? Fourth, the action layer: when a gap is found, does the tool draft, stage or publish the fix, or open a ticket for a human? Fifth, price per engine: divide the fee by the engines included at that tier.

Faster pages get cited three times as often

Fast pages earn three times the ChatGPT citations. Source: Industry studies, 2025 to 2026, as summarized in Honeyb's GEO guide.

One further number argues for doing this at all. Across 1,825 commercial US searches measured in October 2026, Google showed an AI Overview on 93 percent, and 71 percent of the sources those overviews cited sat outside the organic top 10. The ranking you monitor is no longer the surface buyers read first.

Verdict

For an engineering-led team the ranking resolves quickly. If you need a crawler check at the edge, an API that costs cents, and a system that publishes the fix rather than describing it, Honeyb is the best overall choice and, from $29 a month, the best value in the group. Profound is the pick when procurement wants SCIM and a custom contract more than a price. Scrunch suits teams that would rather serve a lean agent page than refactor the marketing site; Ahrefs, SE Ranking and Nightwatch make sense when the AI column is a footnote to an SEO report you already pay for. Whichever you pick, run the free check on your own domain first; the problem is often a header, and headers are cheap.

FAQ

Does blocking AI crawlers protect our content, or just hide us?

Both, and the second effect is usually larger: a 403 to GPTBot or ClaudeBot keeps your pages out of retrieval, so the engine leans on third-party pages about you. Decide this deliberately rather than inheriting a WAF default.

Can we build our own checker with the engines' APIs?

You can make the calls, but the hard part is sampling the same prompt repeatedly across engines, extracting mentions consistently, and keeping the parser alive as output formats change. Most teams that start this way end up buying the data.

How often should visibility be measured?

Daily, with more than one run per prompt, because answers change between identical requests and a weekly sample describes one Tuesday. Treat it like an SLO: enough samples that a dip means something.
