Despite decades of development, deep learning has been boosted by the increasing processing power of computers and the immense amount of data available, which has allowed it to obtain some achievements that were unthinkable years ago. Deep learning is at the heart of what we know today as artificial intelligence. However, like everything that is talked about a lot, deep learning has formed a series of myths that do not always obey reality.
I’ve been designing monitoring tools for almost 10 years now, and in that time a lot has changed. The infrastructure we build software on, for example, has been transformed multiple times—moving first from physical hosts to VMs in the cloud, then from VMs to containers, and now from containers to serverless and cloud service-based infrastructure.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is already competing with humans for the jobs so many of us have built our careers on. Whether this is progress or the beginning of the end of civilization, it’s probably inevitable. But don’t panic: robots still can’t feel, which is good news for anyone aspiring to a long and fruitful career.
