Greetings! This is Eldin and Ronald reporting in from the Solutions Engineering team at Grafana Labs. You’ve probably seen some previous posts from our colleagues Christine and Aengus or maybe some of the fantastic Loki videos that Ward has put up on YouTube. This week, Ronald and I will walk through how to leverage Prometheus and Loki as data sources to create a simple but awesome Grafana dashboard that enables quick searches of logs.

DHH just coined the term “Citadel,” which finally gives us an excellent way to reference how we approach tech at AppSignal. We said, “Hey, this is us! Our thing has a name now”. In addition to the Majestic Monolith, someone should write up the pattern of The Citadel: A single Majestic Monolith captures the majority mass of the app, with a few auxiliary outpost apps for highly specialized and divergent needs.

Elixir describes itself as "a dynamic, functional programming language designed for building scalable and maintainable applications." Although it's a relative newcomer, Elixir is built on top of the functional programming language Erlang. Elixir is capable of using any Erlang library, and is ideal for use cases such as web development and distributed and low-latency systems. The power, dynamism, and feature-rich toolset of Elixir have made it somewhat of a "cult classic" among programmers.

Containers are becoming the new computing standard for many businesses. New technology does not protect you from traditional security concerns. If your containers handle any sensitive data, including personally identifiable information (PII), credit cards or accounts, you’ll need to take a ‘defense in depth’ approach to container security. The CI/CD pipeline is vulnerable at every stage, from build to ship to runtime.

Today we’re very excited to announce a partnership with Amazon to support Fargate in Sysdig’s product line. We are also announcing that Falco, the world’s most popular runtime security tool for containers, will soon be able to work on Fargate. This is an important milestone. For the first time, Fargate users will enjoy the benefit of deep instrumentation. This will make their workloads more secure, reliable, and efficient.

TLS (and the previously used SSL) protocols make the web go round. They are fundamental when establishing a link between two computers, creating a very special mathematical relationship signified by the all-encompassing gesture of friendship: the handshake. So fundamental, in fact, that we probably take them for granted when we shouldn’t. The user relies on TLS encryption every day to protect data and the integrity of a session.
